Terminology & context

What is SAP Product Compliance — and what was SAP EH&S?

In 2022 SAP renamed classic SAP EH&S to SAP Product Compliance. Functionally it is the module you know — Specification Management, Phrase Management, WWI, SDS distribution, dangerous-goods rule sets. Alongside it there is a new, S/4HANA-native solution. We work in both worlds.

Product Compliance · Classic Scenario

formerly SAP EH&S

The established solution with Specification, WWI, Expert server, SDS distribution and dangerous-goods rule sets. Runs on ECC and S/4HANA. Our core territory since the GmbH was founded in 2019 — built on long-standing hands-on practice in the module.

Product Compliance · New Scenario

S/4HANA-native rebuild

SAP’s new, simplified architecture for Product Compliance on S/4HANA. Fiori-based, with its own data model. Suited to greenfield projects and conversion programmes.

SAP EHS Management

formerly SAP EHSM — not our focus

Occupational health & safety: incident management, risk assessment. Despite the similar name, a separate module we deliberately do not cover — we focus on Product Compliance.

Still googling “SAP EH&S”? You’re in the right place — we just use the new name.

Sound familiar?

We solve these challenges for our customers every day.

  • Your business requirements aren’t covered by SAP standard — and you’re looking for innovative SAP Product Compliance solutions.

  • You’re losing track of the constant changes to regulations, laws and ordinances.

  • Staff in dangerous-goods and product safety are spending too much time on manual checks.

  • Authoring safety data sheets is eating up valuable hours from your team.

  • In dangerous-goods shipping, every consignment has to be classified correctly — even small errors risk fines or being blocked by your carrier.

  • Your safety data sheets and labels need custom, multilingual layouts — and keeping the WWI templates for them clean quickly becomes a burden.

  • Every content update (e.g. 3E) has to be loaded and regression-tested against your existing classification — without breaking anything.

  • Updated safety data sheets reach your customers too late — distribution isn’t automated.

As an expert team we advise and support our customers across every area of SAP Product Compliance — both the Classic Scenario (formerly SAP EH&S) and the New Scenario on S/4HANA. You can always rely on professional, knowledgeable collaboration.

Seven areas — we look together at what you need.

Customizing

What are your requirements, and does SAP standard already cover them? If not, we walk you through the options that solution design or custom development open up.

Content provider

We have years of experience implementing different content providers (e.g. Verisk 3E). They deliver the underlying hazard data that drives classification.

Product safety

We bring UN list substances and rule sets from the content packages into SAP so that you can reliably classify your articles by hazardous-substance and dangerous-goods data. Dangerous-goods data makes your SAP WM and EWM processes regulatory-compliant.

Dangerous goods

We build the foundation so that you can classify your substances cleanly in the dangerous-goods master — data model, integration of the transport rule sets (ADR, RID, IMDG, IATA) and the dangerous-goods checks in SD, WM and EWM processes, set up in SAP Product Compliance.

Safety data sheets

Under hazardous-substance regulation, companies must produce an SDS for every hazardous substance. SAP Product Compliance offers Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) — we design your SDSs with the highest precision.

SDS distribution

Your customers must receive SDS updates whenever the right conditions are met. SAP Product Compliance has a dedicated solution for SDS distribution — we set it up for you.

Server administration

To use the full power of SAP Product Compliance you need Expert and WWI servers. They have to be orchestrated and administered — we help you with that.

From practice

Three mandates that show how we work.

Anonymized by industry — the technical depth is real.

TREMCARDs for MERCOSUR & Brazil — fully automated

Challenge
Transport emergency cards (TREMCARDs) for MERCOSUR and Brazil — across multiple regulations and countries. The tricky part: multi-component products, where the correct card only emerges from the main material and its sub-components.
Approach
New WWI templates based on SAP standard properties — maintainable and standard-compliant instead of custom fields. Logic to resolve multi-component cases via the main material, including determination and printing of the sub-component cards.
Result
Fully automated TREMCARD generation across regulations and countries — printed automatically on delivery via the SDS dispatch.

Lithium battery shipping in the dangerous-goods process

Challenge
Ship lithium batteries in full compliance — classification, packaging and shipping documentation under special provisions, embedded in the running dangerous-goods process.
Approach
Dangerous-goods classification and shipping process set up in SAP; SAP TM delivery split that separates customer orders by dangerous-goods and carrier rules; EWM storage checks for hazardous materials and GLM integration.
Result
Compliant lithium battery shipping in live operation — with order splitting optimized by dangerous-goods and carrier rules.

Compliant SDS logic in Section 11 — against a regulatory deadline

Challenge
A supervisory authority required a time-bound change to the safety data sheet (CLP Regulation 1272/2008): in Section 11.1, for every toxicological endpoint, the phrase “Based on available data, the classification criteria are not met” must appear automatically — but only if the product isn’t classified there and the table still contains data. The catch: this could only be modeled cleanly through extensive WWI stack logic.
Approach
Conditional output per endpoint via WWI stacks — matching the H-phrases from Section 2 against the data table in 11.1, including special-case handling for skin and eye irritation (an additional check for existing product-study phrases).
Result
Delivered on time within the authority’s deadline — the phrase appears automatically exactly where the regulation requires it.

How we work

Three principles

01

We are part of the client's delivery chain.

We don't ship PowerPoint solutions. What we design, we either implement ourselves or hand over so cleanly that another team can take it forward.

02

What we build, the client should be able to maintain without us.

Clean code, documented customizing decisions, traceable user exits and BAdIs. Lock-in is not our business model.

03

Reachable after go-live.

Most issues only surface after the first real shipment, the first real migration, the first real audit cycle. That's when we're still around.
