So you can reliably classify your substances in the dangerous-goods master.
The dangerous-goods master is the data foundation every compliant shipment builds on: transport classification under ADR (road), RID (rail), IMDG (sea) and IATA/ICAO (air), UN numbers, packing groups, special provisions and limited quantities — maintained at substance and order level in SAP Product Compliance (formerly SAP EH&S). In practice that means specific UN numbers, each with its own requirements — for example UN 3480 (lithium-ion batteries), UN 1263 (paints and coatings) or UN 1170 (ethanol).
And it applies across every industry — pharma, chemicals, electronics or trade alike: as soon as a substance qualifies as dangerous goods, there is no way around classifying it correctly, and that data has to be wired cleanly into the downstream processes. Because a wrong classification or missing data gets expensive fast: fines, and in the worst case losing your carrier or a ban on air-freight shipping.
It gets demanding because this data has to reach into the operational shipping processes: the dangerous-goods check has to fire at the right step — in the sales order, the delivery, the shipment — and the delivery split has to separate orders by dangerous-goods and carrier rules before they go into transport.
Kocak Solutions sets up exactly that foundation — data model, integration of the rule sets and the dangerous-goods checks in SD and SAP TM. The actual classification stays with you; we make sure SAP carries it reliably and enforces it in the process. Tightly linked with Regulatory Content for the dangerous-goods rule sets and SAP WWI for the transport documents.
Typical dangerous-goods topics
- Building & customizing the dangerous-goods master — DG views on substance and order data
- Integrating the transport rule sets (ADR, RID, IMDG, IATA/ICAO, ADN) and their check schemes
- Dangerous-goods checks in SD — sales order, delivery and shipment, including blocks on violations
- Delivery split in SAP TM by dangerous-goods and carrier rules
- Limited quantities and the points calculation (ADR 1.1.3.6) plus mixed-loading prohibitions
- Distributing dangerous-goods master data via SAP MDG
- Interplay with WWI for dangerous-goods transport documents
